<p>One of the most common questions up for debate when it comes to tomatoes is; what is it? Is it a fruit or is it a vegetable. Well, although they are eaten as a vegetable – they are in fact fruit. There are many varieties and in recent years there has been a clear revival of the so-called “old” tomatoes. Red, orange, yellow, black, green, beef heart, cherry, grape; you have a lot of choices and flavours for your garden.</p>
<p><strong>PLANT</strong></p>
<p>Although they prefer warm climates, tomatoes can be grown anywhere, favouring sunny locations.</p>
<p>Sowing will take place in March but before planting, it is important to clean the soil, adding compost and manure to ensure a good soil quality.</p>
<p>Depending on the region, you can plant the crops between the end of April and the beginning of May. The deeper you plant them, the more they will be protected from the weather.</p>
<p>It is essential to add stakes to your plants. Stakes provide support for the plant growth, whilst helping to keep them from ground level where they are more accessible to pests and disease.</p>

<p><strong>CARE</strong></p>
<p>Tomatoes are among the easiest fruits and vegetables to grow.</p>
<p>Water regularly; however, be careful to water only the base, because if you wet the tomatoes or the leaves, you risk developing certain diseases, such as mildew.</p>
<p>As the plants grow, remove the dead leaves so that the fruits ripen with more sunlight visibility. This will also prevent the development of diseases.</p>

<p><strong>HARVEST</strong></p>
<p>Even if you can find them all year long in the stores, you will have to wait until the end of May or beginning of June to harvest your little ones. And sometimes even a little later if the sun was scarce during the cultivation.</p>
<p>Cherry tomatoes can be harvested as late as November.</p>

<p>Loved by many, and known by all since childhood, the potato is popular – and has many varieties to choose from. Thus, we will not use the same variety to make the different types of potato that reach our tables, so the choice of which to grow is usually according to your tastes.</p>
<p><strong>PLANT</strong></p>
<p>For quality crop, a soil that has been tilled to a certain depth is required. Add fertilizer before planting, then scratch your soil.</p>
<p>The crops should be planted after the frost, therefore from March to May depending on the region.</p>
<p>Plant them 10cm deep, taking care to space them out in a grid pattern.</p>

<p><strong>CARE</strong></p>
<p>About 6 weeks after planting, hoe the soil and bring it back to the foot of the plants. This is called “buttering your plants”. The root ball should ideally reach 15-20cm.</p>
<p>Water sparingly in dry weather if necessary and add mulch to prevent the soil from drying out too quickly.</p>

<p><strong>HARVEST</strong></p>
<p>New potatoes are harvested when they bloom, about 2 months after planting depending on the variety. It is possible to eat them directly after harvesting.</p>
<p>For other potatoes, harvesting should start at the end of summer in dry weather, when the leaves are wilting.</p>
<p>Then let the potatoes dry and store them in a cool, dry place.</p>

<p>Native to Southeast Asia, Citrus trees thrive in the sun and in warmer temperatures. Not only do they brighten up your home & garden, but citrus fruits are also very good for your health. They are rich in antioxidants, provide magnesium and calcium to fight against aging and help strengthen your bones.</p>
<p><strong>PLANT</strong></p>
<p>For planting in pots, ensure it is a reasonable size, otherwise you will have more leaves than fruits if your pot is too big. Use clay ball for good drainage & a specialist soil for a quality substrate.</p>
<p>Planted in the autumn, the citrus will strengthen and take root in the soil, whereas when planted in spring the vegetation will be immediate.</p>

<p><strong>CARE</strong></p>
<p>During summer, water your tree frequently: every two or three days. Reduce the rate in winter and feed your tree regularly with citrus fertilizer.</p>
<p>Prune citrus trees every two years, very lightly and re-pot your tree about every 4 years. </p>
<p>When it’s freezing, move your pot into an area with little heat, but in the sun. If the room is heated and the air is too dry, your citrus tree will suffer.</p>
<p>In the spring, bring your citrus fruit out without exposing it to direct sunlight. Prepare it gradually for summer.</p>
<p>Be careful, citrus fruits are very sensitive to diseases! Common signs of disease are cracks in the leaves, that turn yellow and fall off. These diseases are often due to a too dry air when the trees are indoors.</p>

<p><strong>HARVEST</strong></p>
<p>Pick your fruit as they ripen and as you need them. Otherwise, you will weaken your citrus fruit.</p>
<p>Most lemons are harvested in winter and spring, some year-round. Clementines are harvested in November and December; oranges are harvested all winter; bergamots and tangerines in January and February.</p>
<p>If you don’t need them right away, leave the lemon on its branch as it will last longer. It will last up to two weeks in a dry, airy place; sometimes even up to a month in the refrigerator.</p>

<p>Did you know that carrots were not always orange as they are today? In fact, they used to be white, and often confused with turnips. Today, they are also available in yellow, red, and purple. The purple carrot has many benefits and is very sweet. How about planting one of these varieties? </p>
<p><strong>PLANT</strong></p>
<p>For good tasting carrots, plant them in the sun and prepare your soil beforehand. Well-drained soil, without stones, light soil, and soil that has been nourished before planting to guarantees quality. Carrots also like slightly sandy soil.</p>
<p>Carrots can be planted in the middle of winter under a tarpaulin or tunnel, but ideally, they should be planted from March to at least July in the ground.</p>
<p>When you plant the seeds in a row, do not hesitate to mix them with sand.</p>

<p><strong>CARE</strong></p>
<p>After the first leaves emerge, you can start thinning and spacing the plants so that growth is not impeded. Adjust the distances according to the type of carrots.</p>
<p>Water regularly to avoid a too dry soil, and hoe and mulch to protect against weeds.</p>
<p>The most dangerous pest for carrots is the carrot fly. Yellowish coloured larvae attack the carrot from the roots. That’s why mulch is necessary on a vegetable garden.</p>

<p><strong>HARVEST</strong></p>
<p>Harvest takes place from July for the first plants and spreads out until November. Some harvests can also be done at the very beginning of the season, in April and May, for early carrots.</p>
<p>Remember to rotate the vegetables during the following season, do not replant carrots in the same place to improve the quality of your soil.</p>

<p>Red berries such strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries are popular fruits which come into season during the summer months. Easy to grow, they take up little space in the garden, and are therefore perfectly suited to more limited outside spaces. Not only are berries delicious, but they are also antioxidants and provide us with potassium, essential to our well-being by acting on fatigue, muscles, hypertension.</p>
<p><strong>PLANT</strong></p>
<p>Most berries are planted in early autumn. Your plants will be able to root well and provide you with good berries for the following year.</p>
<p>Strawberry plants bought in cups can be planted in early spring to harvest in the season. They do not tolerate too humid and calcareous soils, therefore prefer a clay soil.</p>
<p>Blackberry bushes prefer a soil that is not too humid, whilst raspberry bushes adapt to all types of soil and love the sun.</p>
<p>In any case, choose a sunny and previously cleaned soil, and for quality harvests, add manure to your soil.</p>

<p><strong>CARE</strong></p>
<p>The best time to add fertiliser is in the autumn, after planting, and more specifically a specialist fertiliser design for berries.</p>
<p>Red berry bushes are very sensitive to pest attacks, so make sure you take preventative measures. You can also add a small protective net to protect your fruits from birds or other predators.</p>
<p>To ensure longevity for your plants, prune your shrubs by removing old, dried out and damaged branches that no longer produce fruit. It is also important to weed the soil regularly and preferably mulch it.</p>
<p>In summer, water regularly, avoiding watering the leaves. Do not wet the foliage at the risk of attracting pests.</p>

<p><strong>HARVEST</strong></p>
<p>Berries are harvested as the season progresses and according to your needs. They are difficult to preserve. Depending on the species, you can harvest from June to October, before the first frost.</p>
<p>Harvest slowly and carefully; they are fragile, too abrupt gestures could damage them. The plants live in general 3 years, or more if they are very well maintained.</p>

<p>Apples are one of the most common fruits, with thousands of varieties around the world, including gala, golden, lady, granny smith to name a few. Growing an apple tree in your garden is a fun, easy and cost-effective way to enjoy this delicious fruit!</p>
<p><strong>PLANTING</strong></p>
<p>Before planting your apple tree, think about how it will adapt to the space available: it will grow better and more easily in larger spaces.</p>
<p>You can plant a tree bought in a garden centre or apple seeds, which will take at least 5 years to produce. It is also essential that the tree can be pollinated, otherwise you will never have an apple. This pollination will be easy if you have a lot of vegetation around.</p>
<p>Plant your tree in mid-autumn or early winter, so that it has time to grow roots for the next season. The soil should be drained, aerated, in the sun and protected from the wind.</p>
<p>To ensure good fruit production, plant several species of apple trees and space the trees at least 10m apart to ensure good growth.</p>

<p><strong>CARE</strong></p>
<p>Water your apple tree frequently. It does not tolerate hot climates, so the soil must remain hydrated.</p>
<p>Your apple tree will give you fruit for several years. Prune it at the end of winter, before the first buds appear. Cut off old and damaged branches.</p>
<p>In the autumn, add fertilizer to the base of the tree.</p>
<p>In summer, water regularly without flooding and apply mulch at the base of the tree to prevent weeds from growing. This will also protect the fruit in case of fall. You can use protective treatments to protect from infestation but remember to stop the treatments when the fruits are ripe.</p>

<p><strong>HARVEST</strong></p>
<p>It will probably be a few years before you can harvest the first fruit from your tree. Once the fruit is ripe, you can harvest it before the first frost, in early autumn, for winter varieties.</p>
<p>An apple is ready to be picked when it detaches very easily from its supporting branch.</p>
<p>Apples can be well preserved. However, eat the ripest fruit first, which will not last as long. Store the others in a cool place, away from light and frost.</p>
